CAT – Common Admission Test is an Entrance Exam conducted by IIM’s for admission into IIM’s and many other top MBA Colleges and Instituttes in India.

CAT 2012-2013 Paper Pattern:-

From 2012-2013 there will be some changes in the pattern of the CAT paper. CAT 2012-2013 will have only two sections instead of the erstwhile three sections. The first section will focus on Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second on Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. There will be total 60 questions in the paper, 30 in each section. The duration of CAT 2012-2013 will be 140 minutes.

A 15-minute tutorial will be provided before the start of the test, and candidates are advised to go through that carefully before starting the main examination. The total duration will be two hours and thirty five minutes including the tutorial. A practice test to provide candidates with a feel of the timed sections, as well as navigation and functionality of the actual test will be made available in the coming weeks. Once again candidates are advised to go though them carefully to familiarise themselves with the screens, layout, and navigation.

CAT 2012-2013 Eligibility:- The candidate should have Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) categories or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

CAT 2012-2013 Verbal Syllabus:-

Comprehension of passage, syllogism, verbal reasoning, contextual, analogies, antonyms, fill in the blanks, jumbled paragraphs, foreign language words used in English, sentence correction and completion, odd man out, idioms, one word substitution, same word’s different usage, errors in word choice, incorrect words, phrasal, proverb, punctuation etc.

CAT 2012-2013 Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency Syllabus:-


Data Interpretation :- Data are given in form of tables, charts, graphs, Line charts, Pie Chart, Area, Venn Diagram, etc. In this section it is tested that how candidates can interpret data.

Data Sufficiency Section: A statement is given with other statement, the candidates have to answer whether the given statement is enough to solve the problem or not.
