You can get admission into IIT by clearing the Joint Entrance Exam conducted for these courses. The eligibility criteria you need to fulfill for such an exam may be as following,
- If you are a students belonging to the general category, you need to get at least 60% marks in class 12th from a recognized board to qualify for the IIT entrance exam but a relaxation of 5% marks is given to students of special category including Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Physically Disabled.
- Students applying for courses like B.Arch. (Bachelor of Architecture) program in IIT Kharagpur, and the B.Des. (Bachelor of Design) program in IIT Guwahati also have to clear an aptitude test.
- The upper age limit for the candidates of normal category is 25 years whereas students belonging to the special categories can apply till the age of 30.
- Candidates, who have applied for an IIT course once and cleared it, cannot apply again for another IIT course.
There is no fixed duration of IIT programs. Some IIT programs are as short as two days but a full fledge IIT course may take you as long as 4 years to complete. The entrance exam itself has two question papers of three hours each.
